Install of Footman loops to Mermite Panniers
In preparations to go on the Trans am trail ride this Aug 30. I have installed some DIY footman loops.
I picked up 8 Drawer pulls from Lowe's hardware for about $1.08 each to solve my ability or lack there of to strap stuff to the top of my cans.
I fastened them in two ways to the cans on this install. One side with Rivets and the other side with longer bolts.
The side that i used the rivets on had the underside cut down and foam cut out for a little extra storage. The right side I keep stock and used the loger bolts
This was my end result

Garmin GPSMAP 60csx
Picked up a Garmin GPSMAPS 60csx.
This is by far one of these best handheld gps units made by Garmin. The GPSMap series incorporats a high sensity receiver by SiRF. It packs in a 20hour battery life, back lite screen and a tone of other features.
The Garmin Gpsmap 60series is the predecessors to the 62 series line out now. There are a few improvements to the 62 series, but after further review I found those changes were not enough for me to buy a new unit.
For more info and a comparison chart check out gpscity.com .
A great site for information on this unit is http://www.asiteaboutnothing.net/g_60csx.html

New battery
The summer heat here in the south has taken another life I'm saddened to report. Yep, my wet cell battery just couldn't handle the heat.
After much research about Odyssey batteries, AGM, conventional wet cell and Shorai Lithium Iron; I've decided to go withe the guy in the middle the AGM.
Ultimately it was about function and price for me. The AGM is a maintenance free battery and sealed. At a cost of 78.00 from Batteries+. The lithium iron are really light weight, but extremely expensive. The odyssey was really heavy and needed the battery cables re routed and turned on its side to work; and it to was extremely expensive.
Conventional or stock battery always need some tlc now and again when in hot weather and it's temperamental to vibrations (we don't have those in the klr) so that was out.
So since the AGM battery was a direct fit it made my job easier.
